News&Events
January 2012
Happy New Year! Deaf Boomers is looking forward to making strong progress in 2012. Deaf Boomers, along with their senior care partner, The Kemper Company, is very excited at the outcome of the recent ULI Study at Gallaudet University. Herb Sutcliffe, Deaf Boomers VP, participated in the study to voice the strong demand for Deaf Senior Housing. The proposed Deaf Senior Community, Gally Circle, is in line with ULI’s findings and recommendations for Capital City Market, which brings us one step closer to initiating development. We remain in close communication with Gallaudet as they move through this process, and will convey updates as they become available.

March 2011

About Us
Welcome to our Site

Welcome to Deaf Boomers, a new organization committed to building Deaf retirement communities throughout the country. Our first location is targeted for the Washington DC and Baltimore metro area. This community will be created to foster the Deaf culture, providing the best possible care and stress-free environment through the latest in high-tech features and amenities.

Imagine...a community built to your specific needs and desires, surrounded by your family and friends daily. You have cultivated these close relationships throughout the years - through school, work and other activities. Our communities will enable those bonds to continue. As a central gathering place for the area’s entire Deaf community, not just our seniors, our communities will be vibrant with daily activity.

Our first step is to find out exactly what you’d like in this community. Take our survey and let us know what your dream home would be, so we can use that information to provide the most ideal properties to fit your needs. Be sure to join our member list so you can receive regular updates. And lastly, we appreciate your help in spreading the word. So please share with your family, friends and colleagues.

About Us
Joined by his brothers, Glen and Herb, Bert Sutcliffe founded the organization, Deaf Boomers, to harness the tremendous demand for Deaf senior housing. As children of Deaf parents, we have witnessed the frustration over previous failed attempts to build a Deaf retirement community in the Washington DC – Baltimore metro area. Also, having been so close to the Deaf community all their lives, we have experienced first hand the strong demand for this community.

With a focused vision, a team with vast experience in all facets of real estate and strategic business partners ready to support this project, we believe we can finally have this dream realized. Deaf Boomers now has the resources that include a well-respected senior care specialty company, financing experts, leading real estate marketing agency and a strong legal firm.

All we need is your support. And it starts with taking the survey and joining our mailing list. Feel free to contact us with any questions or comments.

Our Mission

Deaf Boomers will explore every opportunity in achieving this vision for Deaf senior retirement communities. In everything we do, fostering the Deaf culture and community will be our top priority - from hiring Deaf businesses and staff at every possible opportunity to developing strong affiliations with all area Deaf organizations.

As a new affiliate sponsor of the National Association for the Deaf, Deaf Boomers is looking to develop strong roots in the Deaf community. We will soon be reaching out to local Deaf organizations in hopes of working together in support of Deaf seniors. A portion of each community, such as offices and conference rooms, will be available for the use of these area Deaf organizations, including possible continuing education opportunities.
