News&Events
January 2012
Happy New Year! Deaf Boomers is looking forward to making strong progress in 2012. Deaf Boomers, along with their senior care partner, The Kemper Company, is very excited at the outcome of the recent ULI Study at Gallaudet University. Herb Sutcliffe, Deaf Boomers VP, participated in the study to voice the strong demand for Deaf Senior Housing. The proposed Deaf Senior Community, Gally Circle, is in line with ULI’s findings and recommendations for Capital City Market, which brings us one step closer to initiating development. We remain in close communication with Gallaudet as they move through this process, and will convey updates as they become available.

March 2011
Deaf Boomers, along with Kemper Company, presented Deaf Senior Community proposal to Gallaudet University to build on their land within Capital City Market. After two years of planning and research, a 50-page proposal was created outlining every facet of the community - Gally Circle.

Our Vision for this Community

Deaf Boomers continues to develop plans based on the survey responses, including a strong demand to build adjacent to Gallaudet University. Here is a glimpse of the proposed community within Capital City Market.

Campus
Carefree living designed exclusively for Deaf and Hard of Hearing seniors, just steps away from Gallaudet University, shops, restaurants and entertainment. A community of active seniors who work, volunteer, travel, and attend classes and theater. All enjoying an environment that is completely catered to your needs, living life the way it was always meant to be.

Guests will have the peace of mind that Deaf Boomers will always be there for you. Experience the advantages of aging in place – an approach to living a healthy life with the promise of professional nursing care if ever needed, whenever needed for as long as needed. A 24-hour in-house clinic for any health care needs.

Enjoy tremendous views the Capitol, Monument, White House, Gallaudet University and beautiful sunsets. Building onto the historic wholesale “market”, the area will thrive from the heritage of Gallaudet University spilling into the neighborhood, pioneering an intergenerational and “equal access” community.

Residences
Four models will be available, from one-bedroom to two-bedroom with den, ranging from 800 to 1200 square feet. Muted walls with open spaces to allow for easy communication. Standard features include all basic appliances, as well as videophones, color-coded strobe lights, and an emergency call system. Deaf design principles will be utilized to create an environment of spacious luxury and comfort. State of the art technology will provide convenience beyond expectations.

Activities
A Resident Life Director will be on staff to plan daily activities for our residents. Group trips to the many local attractions, such as Smithsonian Museums, Monuments, professional sports events and so much more. Street-level retail amenities, including shopping, bookstores, restaurants and entertainment start just steps from your door. Regularly scheduled in-house activities take advantage of the area's rich resources with lectures and classes offered by a wealth of local experts and scholars.

Health & Wellness
The Wellness Center provides various services including screenings, preventative care, and monitoring for chronic health problems. An exam and consultation room is available for these services, as well as massage and physical therapy. Convenience is key: residents can arrange for assessments and consultations, set up in-home personal care and assistance, and home health services.

An onsite Fitness Center supports seniors’ desire to maintain health and vitality. Adjacent to the Wellness Center, the Fitness Center offers stationary equipment and free weights. Equipment for basic occupational therapy is also available. Group exercise, including yoga and cardio programs, is offered for residents.

This is just a peek into the lifestyle and community we're striving to create for Deaf and Hard of Hearing seniors. Deaf Boomers is currently working with our partners to create renderings and initial plans, which we hope to share soon.
